We acquired the farm in 1995,
introduced goat herding in 1996
and have spent the ensuing years
renovating the buildings and
property.
The farm buildings date from the
middle of the 19th century. One
portion of the barn appears to
have been used as a hops barn,
suggesting that this farm was a
part of the significant hops
producing area centered in
Cooperstown.
In subsequent years it was a
working dairy farm. From 1950,
the farm was run by Victor and
Angelia Rezen, and by their family
before them. The Rezen family
name was given to the road that
transits the property--"Rezen
Road".
Our appreciation of Cooperstown
began many years before, after
vacationing with friends on the
beautiful Otsego Lake.
Cooperstown is most interesting,
blending the natural beauty of the
area with attractions that cater to
many tastes. It is best known as
the home of the Baseball Hall of
Fame and the home of James
Fenimore Cooper. The Farmers
Museum incorporates a 19th
century village created from
buildings moved from the
surrounding area. The
Glimmerglass Opera House offers
world-class performances
produced by the San Francisco
Opera Company with
international guest performers.
Brunch on the terrace of the
Otesaga Hotel on Otsego Lake,
overlooking the Leatherstocking
Golf Course and the surrounding
mountains, is superb. Other
attractions include the Fenimore
Art Museum, the Baseball Dream
Park and Doubleday Field.
